Kasuami is a substitute for rice, made from grated cassava which is solidly shaped like a small cone and then steamed. This dish is served in hot conditions, side by side with parende fish soup which is typical of Wakatobi and its surroundings and made from red snapper.

Kasuami is said to be able to last up to a week and is usually used as a compulsory provision for fishermen to go when they go to sea. Other Wakatobi specialties that should be tasted are luluta (nasi bakar) and heloa sira which are vegetable soups, grilled chicken and coconut.
