Hike Mount Batur In One Night!
Idbackpacker.com (Indonesia Backpacker) – Before I tell my story about hiking mount batur, i’m going to explain a little bit about Mount Batur it self. Mount Batur is an active volcano on the island of Bali, and has erupted many times. its last eruption is in 2004, and the greatest eruption occurred in 1926 which was stockpiled Batur Village and Ulun Danu temple with it’s lava.
Aside of a terrible eruption history of Mount Batur, this mountain have a million charm of beauty. Not only hiking experience for amateur hiker like me, but also a natural hot spring named Toyabungkah that we can enjoy while viewing Mount Batur or Batur lake at the same time. This natural hot spring are located in the slope of mount batur, price are ranged from IDR 50.000 to IDR 100.000 to enjoy this natural hot spring.
After preparation is complete, 4 amateur climbers including me set off from kuta on night at 11:30, with daypack supplies, two 1.5 liter bottles of mineral water on the left and right side daypack. I expect enough to stock up later. Trip to Kintamani takes approximately 2 hours, with 2 motorcycle. We pass through the darkness toward Batur, Kintamani. Throughout the journey it feels so quiet, because it was already very late, just occasionally we came across a motor vehicle from the opposite direction.
The weather is quite cold during the trip to Kintamani also a little misty when getting closer to it. At about 1:30 Am, we arrived at Kintamani area, and we were rest at the Panelokan Point. Panelokan itself is a point where we can enjoy the view of Mount Batur and Lake Batur simultaneously during the day. On the night, only cold weather and darkness can be seen from there.
We took a short break after driving few hours from Kuta. I turn on my laptop, open google and search for the location where we should start climbing Mount Batur. But? Why the hell i should bring a laptop to Mount Batur? Don’t mind that, it is just my habit, always bring a laptop to anywhere i’m traveling to :). I usualy just use google as a preparation for my road trip. Either to plan it or finding information for the trip.
After a bit of misguided, we finally reached the first hiking post that turned out to be near Pura Jati Toya Bungkah. To hike mount Batur we should pay retribution IDR 10,000 per person. So for four people we should pay total IDR 40,000. In addition to that we also offered a guide to accompany us hiking mount batur for IDR 50.000 per person (local price), for four people is IDR 200,000. But we refuse the offer because we want to feel little bit more adventure.

Actualy find hiking route in mount batur are not difficult, just make sure you have good lighting. Or if you are not sure with the route, i recommend to hire local guide here. That way is probably more safer than got strayed around the slope. We started to hike around 03.00 AM, to catch sunrise viewing. After almost 3 hours hiking, we finally arrive in the top of mount batur. In here you can see, a beautiful scenery. Look to the east, and you can see the sun rising from behind Mount Agung, the highest peak in Bali.
If you look around closely in the top of Mount Batur, you might see something unique here. Yup! There is small warung who sell a simple food like “Indomie Rebus” here. “Indomie Rebus” is instant noodle which easily found in mini market around Bali plus boiled egg as additional. Plus a plate rice it will cost IDR 20.000. Not so special food, but it can help when you feel hungry in the top of Mount Batur.
