Idbackpacker.com (Indonesia Backpacker) – Anging Mammiri,is another name for the city of Makassar. A city that I choose for first time backpacking in South Sulawesi. I got a chance to visit this city because a few months ago I got a ticket promo Garuda Indonesia. Yay! Garuda is really generous this time. When most people think outside of Java was deserted, and there just a wilderness exist. Then you are not completely true!! Try visit and see this Anging Mammiri city, with its international airports Sultan Hassanudin. It is not possible to beat Surabaya or Jakarta in a few more years . Even me already felt Makassar city bustle just after I coming out of the airport. Traffic jam everywhere!. So I asked myself, maybe congestion virus in other big cities in Java such as Jakarta already spread everywhere, including this city.
Idbackpacker.com (Indonesia Backpacker) – Fort Rotterdam itself is considered one of the grandest and charming fort in South Sulawesi, according to a note from a source that I found “A New York Times Journalist, Barbara Crossette once described the fort Rotterdam as the best preserved Dutch fort in Asia”, but is it really true? What’s more when I visited the castle and going around the fort, the conditions are quite “messy” or cluttered. Well, perhaps it is because of the renovation of the fort.
Idbackpacker.com (Indonesia Backpacker) – Based on data i’ve found from a variety of sources, Samalona Island is part of the city of Makassar, sub-district Ujung Pandang, South Sulawesi. Access to the island is pretty easy, because only a 20-30 minute crossing the sea. Hiring the fishermen’s boat is common way for crossing to Samalona Island. The boats it self are easily found in Kayu Bangkoa pier. But I was crossing to Samalona from unknown dock in front of Fort Rotterdam.
Idbackpacker.com (Indonesia Backpacker) – I had a chance to visit this wonderful city in December 2011. I got one Garuda Indonesia promo tickets at that time, yep!! It’s Garuda Indonesia, the best Indonesian airlines. interesting isn’t it? That’s why i don’t want to waste a chance buying the promo tickets, and pack my backpack to Makassar city.
