Taketa

Pure spring waters and hot springs, delicious wine and trout, and rugged natural beauty – these are just a few of the attractions that make Taketa a must-visit destination. Located in Oita Prefecture, Taketa is blessed with amazing landscapes, clean air, and natural spring water. The water here is not just for bathing; it is also known for its purity and great mineral properties. One of the most famous springs in the area is Meisui no Sato, which is renowned for its pristine water. Another notable hot spring is Nagayu Onsen, which is famous for its carbonated water springs and their health-inducing properties.

When visiting Taketa, there are several things that you shouldn’t miss. One of them is the stunning view from the summit of Mt. Kuju. The panoramic vistas from this mountain are simply breathtaking, especially during the spring when pink azaleas bloom, creating seas of pink. Another highlight of Taketa is its colorful autumn foliage. During the autumn months, the mountains are adorned with vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow, creating a picturesque backdrop for nature enthusiasts and photographers alike.

Nagayu Onsen is particularly unique among Japanese hot springs because of its high natural carbonation. This distinctive feature has led to a cultural exchange between Nagayu Onsen and Bad Krozingen in Germany. Moreover, the area is also renowned for its wine production. The climate in Taketa is well-suited for growing wine grapes, and combined with the famous spring waters, it has become an abundant resource for producing high-quality wine.
