Enjoy Mangrove Trekking In South Bali
Idbackpacker.com (Indonesia Backpacker) – Mangrove trekking tour will probably sound unfamiliar in the southern part of Bali. Mainly because beach tourism is the main attraction from southern part of Bali island. This time I found an unique destination which might still less known by tourists and backpackers. Does everybody have known mangrove trekking in south bali before? Well, even though it is located next to Jalan Bypass Ngurah Rai, the super busy, and sometimes jammed road, apparently this mangrove forest can be considered as a hidden destination in Bali.

A Mangrove forest with an area of over 1300 acres is actually a result of cooperation of Indonesian government with JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency). Which is later arranged in such way, to become a unique tourist attractions, with its main attraction mangrove trekking. Altough I think the aren’t much success changing this mangrove as main tourist attraction of south bali. Even I seen little tourist there, but more local people enjoying the forest as a place to hang out, especialy youngster.
The infrastructure available in the mangrove area are good enough for me to wander around inside of it. No need to pass trough muddy area if you want to enjoy the mangrove. There are already supplied wooden walkways passing mangrove forest area, just enough to make me happy see various kind flora and fauna available here.
Since I enter the area of mangrove forest, I was stunned by the view of the mangrove forests which rarely I see at very close range like this, especially while walking. Not only that, even at some point provided with a special place to enjoy the beauty of the mangrove forest. I can sitting down and breathe in the fresh air calmly there. In fact, in the center of it there is a tower to see almost entire area of the forest from height.
And here’s the mutant crabs, eh? no no no.. the real name is Ocypodid Crabs
Not only the variety of flora are found in the mangrove forests, but there are also dozens of animals that live in peace. The most prominent here is the crab! Even this place is actually a crab kingdom that hidden in the island of gods. Why do I say so? Come here, you will see hundreds of crabs lying around and move. Hey!? They do not even realize that I was watching them seriously :D
But hey? I see something weird here! Those crabs seems not normal. The size of their hands are not same, one is smaller and the other is much bigger, even its too big for their body size. Later i knew that crabs living here are little bit different with the one I used to eat. I love eating crabs you know? they are delicious. On some information board i read there, many type of crabs living here. There are Portunid Crabs , Xanthid Crabs , Ocypodid Crabs, Grabsid Crabs and many other. Too bad that some of them are poisonous, so i can’t grilled and then ate them :).
Fact about mangrove trekking tourism in South Bali :
- The ticket price for entering the mangrove forest is IDR 5000, not too pricey right?
- Trekking route are easy, even for newbie like me, It’s only few hundreds meter long.
