Idbackpacker.com (Indonesia Backpacker) – Two times visiting Selong Belanak beach doesn’t make me bored at all, even i was planning my third one just after this second visit. Seeing the beach just makes me want to go back here more often. Selong belanak beach seem more beautiful after my first visit one year ago. I think this one could be the best destination in Lombok to visit.

Selong Belanak beach is always amaze me!

“If you ever playing role play game final fantasy, selong belanak beach must be the realization from a beach inside that game. I just couldn’t resist to it bluish water”

It takes about two hours visiting Selong Belanak Beach from Mataram, and its only takes about 30 minutes if you coming from the direction of Kuta, South Lombok. Road Access from both directions are very good, unlike a few years ago, the road are still broken and holey. But now hard and black asphalt graced all the way to the beach.

With such easy access, this beach seems to be getting popular day by day. You pay no admission here (Yay!! free entrance to the beach!), But only pay parking fees of IDR 3000 (data in 2013). Perhaps that’s why many people want a vacation and having fun at the Selong Belanak beach. Also when I visited there, many foreigners who were come to this beach. Whether to simply relax, or who are try to learn riding the waves a.k.a surfing.

Yup! Selong Belanak beach today, has been gaining popularity as a place to practice surfing in Lombok. Having characteristic as sloping beach, and the waves are not too big enough is the best place for practice surfing. I see that this beach is similar to Kuta Beach in Bali. The difference is, Selong Belanak beach are 100 percent cleaner and more quiet! Unfortunately no one renting surf board at this beach. The nearest surf board rental only available in the area near Kuta, South Lombok, about 30 minutes from the beach. Too bad i don’t have any surf board at that time, so I don’t try surf the waves of Selong Belanak.

Not able to surf in this beach doesn’t make me disappointed. Just playing on it’s fine sand, also seeing blue turquoise color of Selong Belanak water was really fun too. Trust me there are so rare, a beach which have natural fine sand like this one. In fact, Bali whose name was worldwide doesn’t have a beach with sand like this. Well, with these conditions, I’m not surprised if you forget everything and spending too much time here :)

Do not be afraid of hungry and can’t eat anything while on the beach! Although it is relatively far from downtown, in Selong Beach Belanak exist some food stalls as well. Most of them are sell Indonesian food named “Nasi Campur” and a fresh young coconut drink. In this place there are also local people who sell seafood catched by them. Those seafood then cooked without special spices. They just grilling it after washing it with salt water. This seafood is best eaten with spicy sambal. Never doubt its taste! Eating seafood on the shores of Selong Belanak beach always makes me miss to visit this place again.

Grilled squid and fish such as "tengiri" can be obtained at a price of IDR 25.000 in Selong Belanak Beach. Best eaten using soy sauce and super spicy "sambal" or special chili sauce, plus a drink of young coconut.
